
Food Shelf Assistant
Job Description
Part-time: 20 - 25 hours/week
Calvary Lutheran Church seeks a part-time Food Shelf Assistant to work in its Food Shelf program. This position is tied to a grant which requests the person hired to have lived with food insecurity.

The Calvary Food Shelf program has operated for more than 40 years and has seen significant growth over the past five years following the Covid-19 pandemic and the murder of George Floyd. It is located in newly renovated space in The Belfry Apartments at the corner of 39th and Chicago Avenue. Operations involve Wednesday and Saturday appointments for clients, Tuesday and Thursday morning truck deliveries, weekly home deliveries, shopping and packing all accomplished with a small staff and a significant cohort of more than 100 diverse volunteers from the community and the congregation.
The Food Shelf Assistant provides operational support to the Calvary Food Shelf Director which involves helping manage and coordinate volunteers to pack and organize food and keep the food shelf clean and neat; maintain safety protocols; coordinate the Homebound Delivery Program with client outreach, order packing, and delivery; help monitor inventory and pace food orders with state food banks; oversee food rescue donations; maintain daily records; work alongside volunteers and provide coverage as needed for the Director.

Qualifications: A strong preference for selection will be given to bilingual Spanish-speaking candidates with experience living with food insecurity. In addition, it is important the person serving in this position can:

understand appropriate personal boundaries and professional ethics
relate to individuals and families of varied ethnic, cultural backgrounds, ages and economic circumstances
work both independently and as part of a team
